COMPLIANCE OVERVIEW
The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 established the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) whose charge was, and still is, to enforce protective workplace safety and health standards for the U.S. work force. Healthcare workers should be just as knowledgeable in OSHA standards as their employer to protect themselves while working in a high-risk field. Dental health care personnel face many serious safety and health hazards including bloodborne pathogens, biological, respiratory, and ergonomic hazards, as well as chemical, drug, and radiological exposures.
The COVID-19 pandemic revolutionized the oral health workforce and caused a paradigm shift in the meaning of practicing safe dentistry. No other public health crisis has had this significant of an impact on federal and state regulations in clinical practice standards since the discovery of HIV. Pathogenic viruses such as these are a driving force in changes to federal guidelines responsible for protecting United States health care workers. This course will discuss OSHA standards through the lens of post-pandemic best practices and evidence-based science.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After completing this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify workplace safety and health hazards in the dental field.
- Recognize the importance of OSHA compliance training and knowledge to protect oneself from hazards and maintain a safe working environment.
- Incorporate a contemporary office plan of protection using current evidence-based research
